A Little Snack

On Wednesday, September 25th, the Library hosted a food tasting in support of its Muslim Journeys project. This was the first of several events planned for the year. Foods from different restaurants were brought in: falafel, hummus and pita bread, stuffed grape leaves, assorted Iranian pastries and cakes, and Morrocan-style mint tea. The intention was to highlight foods that were from different cultures where Islam is practiced. In addition, the Bridging Cultures Bookshelf books were on display, and people had an opportunity to peruse them, as well as check out one of the videos in the collection.

The event was quite successful. Students as well as people from the community came, and enjoyed themselves. They ate and laughed and communed. There was no left-over food after the event was over. People asked about upcoming events, and were quite interested to find out that there were two additional talks that were scheduled for October.

If you are disappointed that you missed this event, please rest assured that this is not the only Muslim Journeys event that we are hosting. On Tuesday, October 15th, Chris Cryer will talk about the lives of women in the book Dreams of Trespass, which is a memoir of a woman who grew up in a harem in 1940’s Morocco (please note that this is a different topic than what was previously advertised). And on Tuesday, October 29th, Nooshie Motaref will talk about Sufism, a mystical dimension of Islam.

We hope you can join us!
